Maria reviews Daylesford Hay Barn, Gloucestershire

My sister-in-law and I visited the Daylesford Hay Barn Spa spa for a Bliss day, the total cost was £195 each, I also paid £70 for a personal yoga class for the two of us. Here are our thoughts:

Positives -

The treatments were really good, we had a facial and a full-body massage. The staff were excellent and made us both feel at ease. They were clearly well trained. Our skin glowed afterwards. - The food in the restaurant was very good, the waiter who served us had a sense of humour and it was nice speaking to him. - The location is delightful. The food store etc. is lovely and they lay on lots of samples to try. We bought a lot of food and wine to take home.

Negatives -

The Bliss day is not well designed, unlike other spas we’ve visited this spa does not have a relaxing room. Instead we were left sitting in a small area beside the spa reception. We were carrying our coats and bags and there was no place to permanently leave them. As such a large gap between treatments meant we had to redress and wander in the shops. We were not told beforehand what to take with us as such it was fortunate both of us thought to pack gym clothes for our yoga class. - The Bliss day includes a meal, however it is for a set value of £9.95, you can choose to have other items off the menu but you pay the difference. Most main courses cost more than £9.95. We chose to go with the set choice and had a cheese and potota pastry slice with a small green salad, and a 125ml of white wine.

I can’t fault the food but for a day cost of £195 it’s not great. - The yoga class started 15 mins after my body massage finished, I had barely finished dressing before we had to be there. Again better planning would have been helpful. It did not feel joined up or well coordinated. Overall, very expensive and have not clearly thought out what people want from a day spa. Maria
