Chloe reviews the Hampshire Court Hotel Reflections Spa

I'm a spa-weekend fan and like to go on about four/five a year. I thought I should write a review of the Hampshire Court Hotel, as it was a very disappointing spa experience, and I feel it really should be shared.

Whilst the accommodation at the Hampshire Court Hotel is great; very clean and modern - the spa facilities are disappointing.

When we changed into our robes and slippers, we were led through the main reception foyer through a public cafeteria (Costa Coffee) packed full people (mainly non-residents) having Saturday coffee and even men watching the football(!).  Naturally, turning up in just our robes we were the subject of much staring!

We had to "report" to the leisure & tennis club reception, which was a bit like a public facility, very "municipal", no exclusivity at all, and which hasn't been renovated like the rest of the hotel.

We were then led through a maze of corridors to the actual spa (at last!). The treatments (I had a back massage and a mini-facial) were great, and the staff were very professional and friendly, but we were then directed back to the swimming pool - which was just simply - a swimming pool - with a steam room which really had seen better days (it was 'rusty' in some corners with the odd 'black hair' hanging around on the seats!). The changing rooms were, again, very municipal, with no 'wet or dry' area, and fairly dirty I'm afraid.

Our spa lunches were taken back in the public cafeteria (by now, we had had facials - were red and shiny - our hair was wet and scraped back and we were getting more and more odd stares!). My friend's panini was acceptable, but my smoked salmon sandwich was inedible (brown smoked salmon - not nice!).  I was pleased to get back to my room!

We had dinner that evening in the restaurant, which was very acceptable to be fair, and the service very friendly.

However, I don't really think this hotel should be marketed as an exclusive spa hotel, as it clearly caters mainly for members of the leisure and tennis club, and I cannot emphasise the humiliation of having to eat lunch in a public cafeteria after having a facial!!!

Thanks for taking the time to read this, and I hope I can contribute in some way.

Miss Chloe Nice
