Titanic Spa, Huddersfield - 4 stars

The Good Spa Guide first visited the new Titanic spa shortly after its opening. That's always a difficult time for spas as everything is bedding in, so we were delighted to be asked back to sample one of the UK's greenest spas. Single Spy and a friend went off to Yorkshire and drifted back on the wings of the excellent 4-bubble experience that is now in place.

"Just had a day there and it was very nice. I went on my own and don't think I'd go back again unless it was in a group/couple. The reason being that I wanted to go and relax and have some "me" time but the quiet areas weren't really that quiet, mainly due to the amount of people that were there. If they have a maximum number of guests, it's very high! The relaxation room isn't sufficient for the number of people they allow in at a time and there always seemed to be someone looking for somewhere to relax and being disappointed.

The treatments were nice but they seemed to shave 5 mins off each so I felt a little cheated! It would also have been nice to have had a choice of what I did when - I would have liked to gym and swim in the morn then have my treatments in the afternoon but I had my treatments first. The heat therapy was full of groups all talking so not a place for total relaxation!

The food was OK, buffet style. They seemed to have messed up with everyone's bookings - they give you a schedule when you get there and they had missed one of mine off, as with a lot of others. Also, don't use the postcode to get there as you'll end up in the middle of an industrial estate 5 mins away!"

"just returned from a 'friday special' at the Titanic Spa, was entirely delighted with the quality of the facilities, accomodation and treatments. Good value for money, look forward to a re visit"

"We have been a few times since it opened, usually to use the Heat Experience, and were also members for a while and can honestly say it is on a very slippery slope downhill. It's not cheap to join, but offers less facilities and is less well maintained than other local gyms who charge a fraction of the price. It's getting shabbier and is in need of a good clean to be honest. The heat experience is still fun, but I would only go on a bring a friend for free day to be honest or it's not worth the money if you both have to pay. We have both had a massage here, but it was like being tickled and the therapist moaned about how little she was being paid throughout. Not very relaxing, especially considering how much we were paying for the treatment! The staff change constantly and can often be overheard moaning about their jobs. It's obvious they don't enjoy being there. No one takes responsibility for anything and the loos, lockers, locker/gym keys and gym equipment are often broken or out of order for weeks at a time. Towels are always in short supply and the robes are plain scruffy. Lunch is served from what was supposed to function as a juice bar and your lunch often sits side by side with other peoples dirty pots. (This must be a food hygiene issue.) The reception staff, whilst babies, used to be super friendly and well trained, but in the last 3 months of so it's not uncommon to be ignored on arrival and have to go off to find someone to attend to you. Bookings are haphazard and are often cocked up, resulting in what should be a chilled and relaxing experience ending on a sour note as treatments you think you have booked are not available. Needless to say, we won't be going again. Oh dear!"

"I would avoid this place and wouldn't go back again. Its very amateur with young inexperienced girls who are like lost sheep - one was telling me she's on minimum wage during one of my 'relaxing' treatments!!! The place is shabby - the views are of dirty embankments covered in rubbish. There is building work going on nearby so all you can hear during your treatments is drilling and banging. If you want to mention of this and ask to speak to a manager you get told they are not allowed to give you a managers name and if you have a problem just to fill in a comments form and leave it at reception. Its a shame really because it could be so nice, but the management let the place down by not really caring and showing no presence."

"Visited this spa with my mum for a well earned day of pampering. Very disappointing. The building is a renovated mill and the rooms are very large and unfriendly. The gowns had so much static they were very uncomfortable. The therapist talked through my treatment. The relaxation room was mainly beanbags with a couple of chairs and I offered my chair to a heavily pregnant lady who was struggling to find somewhere comfortable to sit.
Wouldn't recommend it to friends"

"Very dissapointed in the whole experience, from very inexperienced young staff to dressing gowns that shed over everything, changing rooms were boiling. My therapist was delightful and although the treatment wasn't ground breaking the delivery and attitude of the therapist was commendable. Wouldn't go back far too expensive"

"Good Points:
Apartments - very stylish and comfortable. Building and spa design. Heated lockers and changing room floor. Trained therapists.
Bad Points:
Poor food - everything microwaved. Poor staff communication. 'Therapists in training' didn't seem to have a clue."
