"I was bitterly disappointed by this place. travelled over an hour for a day out with my daughters and arrived at a 'spa' akin to a council leisure centre. The steam room was not working. The pool was small but ok and the sauna was full with three people in it. There was only two recliners and about 6 tatty rattan garden type chairs so you sat bolt upright! We came out of the sauna and found a staff member moving our personal items off the two recliners 'so others can sit on them too' considering we were the only three people in the area I was furious. We decided not to stay for the treatments we had booked and left early. PS No power points for GHDs etc and no nice smellies in the locker or shower area. Good luck if you go - dont expect too much."

"As my partner is going away for 4 months to work we decided we would treat ourselves to a day spa at the Bridgewood, it's not too far from us and we thought we could spend more time relaxing than driving if we went locally, BOY WERE WE WRONG!
When we first arrived all seemed well, we were greeted by our therapists, asked to fill in a short form and they showed us straight into our treatement rooms. It felt a little rushed as we had only just arrived and would have been nice to have been shown around and to the changing rooms. We had booked facials each and a full body massage followed by a pedicure, due to take place at different intervals throughout the day so we thought we could relax in between, how wrong were we?
My facial was very rushed and at two different points in the treatment the therapist placed a PAPER TOWEL completely over my face without warning! It wasn't the most relaxing of experiences as I am a little claustrophobic which I had indicated on the intial form! It was also just a paper towel. I hasten to add I've had my fair share of facials and never had this experience before!
After my rushed facial I was anxious to change and become a little more relaxed. We stayed in the relaxation area for a short while before a few other older couples interupted the relaxing atmosphere by sitting in the swimming pool and talking very loudly. To the point where we couldn't hear each other! We decided to check out the sauna etc, which to our dismay was very small, my partner could touch either sides of sauna, definately uncomfortable if you were sitting in there with any one but your beloved! You were practically sitting on each others laps! The hot and cold rain showers were ok but the warm one wasn't working properly and there were no signs up saying which were which, you just had to run the risk you may be in for a cold shock!!
Then we come to the steam room, I've never ever expreienced anything in my life quite like it. Made up of four tiny seats, again you wouldn't really feel comfortable sharing with a stranger, the room absolutely stank! It was a horrible mouldy smell which left it completely unusable. I reported this to reception which the staff appeared not to know anything about it, and they said they would have someone look at it but for the next three hours no one went near nor by. The swimming pool was fine, temperature just right and good size. Was very dissapointed that in the 'spa' there was no spa bath/jacuzzi to be found, so the only area to really kick back and relax was the two roman loungers where we ended up spending most of our time.
Next were our 'full' body massages, my partner was quite satisfied with his but I left completely irratated by mine and not in the relaxed state I had hoped for, in fact I think I was more relaxed when I went in! I had explained to the therapist that I had quite a few knots in my shoulder and was not afraid of a bit of pressure, in fact I asked her to be quite firm! To describe as a massage was an understatement, it was more of a back rub! I couldn't quite believe it when she moved onto my legs so quickly and just like the facial it all felt very rushed. She actually massaged the backs of my legs quite well and then asked me to turn over, by this point I managed to drift off for what must have been about 5-10 mins as I was woken by the someone drilling in the next room! The therapist finished massaging my leg after another 5 mins and then politely stepped outside the room and asked whoever it was was to stop. By this time I was completely awake and quite tense, she massaged my arms, leaving my tummy, chest, and head completely untouched. I had booked the 'full body' massage thinking it would be just that but obviously it wasn't! Again it all felt very rushed and the therapist told me it was all over and to get dressed and leave the room when ready. I must admit I was a little shocked as for the money we were spending I was expecting an awful lot more! The oils didn't even smell and my back still felt tense. I have a few previous massages and have left each and every one in a complete dream like state enjoying the lovely aromas and ready to continue relaxing. I knew I been even more short changed when my partner arrived another 10 mins later. He stated his therapists had twisted him each and every way using elbows, thumbs and fingers and he indeed felt alot more relaxed! His therapist had also given him a small head massage and paid attention to his chest and neck area. I wasn't impressed with the lack of consistancy.
When I explained about my treatement and all the drilling he agreed that other than the massage he wasn't very impressed and suggested we cancel our other treatements booked and leave.
We paid the bill of £150 and left. We were feeling quite fed up considering we had really looked forward to a relaxing romantic day together.
We had hoped that we would have enjoyed our day much more as we liked the general feel of the hotel and would have considered using it for our wedding reception next year, however we will definately be taking our money and custom else where! My partner had called to speak to the manager on two seperate occaisions but as yet we are still waiting for them to call us back!
Overall not very impressive, take your hard earned cash elsewhere!"
