"My husband and I booked a weekend stay at Rookery Hall Hotel and Spa last weekend, and chose it based on the goodspaguide 5 bubble review. However, as a regular spa visitor I was really disappointed with this spa. The hotel was fantastic, the room v.comfortable and the food absolutely first class - but the spa itself was a total let down. We booked the Classic Spa Package, and having recieved no booking confirmation or information about our stay I called the day before to check details of when to arrive. I was told that as I called late there were only 2 treatment times left for our mini-treatments as part of the package, one at 5-30pm and the other at 9-00 sunday morning - but both were together, and we were really looking forward to a relaxing stay. From our arrival onwards it seemed the hotel and spa just didn't work together or provide any detail about our package, which meant we had to keep asking what our package included - for example there was a different "inclusive package" menu for lunch (which wasn't pointed out to us), and £34 limit for the 3-course meal (which - if you ordered the 3-cheapest dishes on the menu would still equal over £34!) We also wanted to book additional treatments but were told there was only one slot for a 25 minute treatment late on the Sunday which was no good for us. Not including the desk staff, the spa treatment staff were not particularly friendly or helpful and didn't explain any of the treatments - followed by dashing off straight after. When we arrived for our first treatment we were led to seperate rooms, even though I'd had three seperate conversations with staff since the day before about taking the treatments together. When I told the therapist that we'd requested taking the treatment together we were told "well, I can set the room up, but it will eat into your treatment time." and she seemed really aggrivated. We were also kept waiting for 15 minutes for each appointment, but the spa seemed empty but for one or two other guests. The gym and swimming pool facilities were good, but the sauna room didn't seem to be working. We had fun and tried to make the most of our stay, but considering the cost we expected a lot more from the service and facitlities. I wouldn't recommend this spa, but would definiately stay in the hotel again."- theelectrolite 10/11/2009 |
