Zen Shiatsu

Zen Shiatsu, also known as Masunaga Therapy, is a form of Shiatsu, one of the Japanese healing arts. This shiatsu was developed by Shizuto Masunaga, who published a book entitled Shiatsu in 1974. Like acupressure, Zen Shiatsu uses direct pressure. The practitioner uses stretches, placing you in different positions including lying flat and sitting. Finger and hand pressure is applied along the energy channels called meridians. The primary teaching of Zen Shiatsu is the importance of remaining in a Zen-like, aware state when practising shiatsu; nourishing weak "kyo" areas and dispersing excess "jitsu" areas, and using a two-handed technique to better feel the flow of qi (life energy).

Good for: Relaxing the mind and body.
