What is VASER lipo technology?
VASER (Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance) is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure, a form of ultrasound-assisted liposuction. VASER uses sound waves to emulsify fat before it is extracted from your body.
What is VASER good for?
Liposuction removes fat from specific sites of the body. Liposuction is not a solution for all-over weight-loss; it aims to sculpt certain areas of the body to create a more balanced silhouette.
By using ultrasound instead of suction tubes inserted under the skin, VASER is a liposuction method that is less damaging to tissues surrounding the fat to be removed. It is not without its side-effects, but can offer reduced bruising and pain compared to other liposuction methods.
Before you go
Research as much as you can and call round as many clinics as possible. Request as much information, advice and testimonials as you can before you choose your clinic.
Your chosen clinic should offer a free, no-obligation consultation. You should receive a thorough full-body examination. You should get the opportunity to talk through your medical history, concerns and information about the procedure. It is at this point that your doctor/therapist should help you manage your expectations. Your therapist should give you a good idea of what results you can realistically expect.
If your chosen clinic does not offer all of the above, go elsewhere. Liposuction is an invasive procedure and is not suitable for everyone, so it is absolutely vital to have full-body health checks and time to consider the full implications.
What to expect from a VASER procedure
The first step is to mark out the incision locations. Once this is done, your therapist will make a small incision and insert the VASER wand through the cut. Using movement and heat along with a liquid via a cannula, the fat is emulsified and blended and then extracted.
Precautions
VASER is not a weight-loss solution. VASER is a method of contouring and shaping aimed at targeting specific areas that have not responded to positive changes in diet and exercise. Liposuction should never be considered before a proper attempt at weight-loss or body contouring has been made via diet and exercise.
VASER is not as invasive as traditional liposuction, but it is also not as effective.
VASER is not suitable for people who:
* have diabetes
* have weakened immune systems
* have heart or lung disease
* have a history of blood clots
* are pregnant or breastfeeding
Side effects and complications can include:
* discomfort or pain
* bruising
* swelling lasting up to three months
* numbness in area of treatment lasting up to eight weeks
* burns on the skin
* infection in skin port holes
* blood clots
* excessive loss of fluid resulting in low blood pressure
* accidental damage to deeper tissue
Afterwards
Recovery time is usually between two days to a week. It is recommended that you refrain from exercise and wear a support garment for the week following the procedure. Whilst some people see a result immediately, it can take three to six months to see a change.
Cost
You can expect to pay upwards of £2,000 per treatment, although prices vary widely between clinics. ALWAYS ensure you are receiving your treatment from an experienced, fully qualified practitioner.
