I have high blood pressure, is it safe for me to have heat treatments?

Heat treatments are not recommended for the very young or for older people, and particularly not for anyone with any kind of heart disorder or blood condition.

For this reason you may need to avoid saunas and Jacuzzis. However, there are "light saunas" - tepidariums and laconiums, for example - which are more balmy than hot. These can provide the same muscle-soothing warmth as the more extreme heat treatments.

But beware: information is often patchy and sometimes absent in spas themselves, so speak to your GP before you go about the treatments and facilities you would like to try.
