What is a spa retreat, and what makes them different to hotel spas or day spas?
The Good Spa Guide asks the team at Grayshott Spa, Surrey, all about what you can expect from a spa retreat experience:
What's the difference between a break at spa hotel and a break at a dedicated spa retreat?
"Unlike a hotel or day spa, visits to a spa retreat such as Grayshott Spa are aimed at improving your health and wellbeing through therapeutic spa treatments, healthy spa cuisine, a programme of exercise classes and educational talks/events.
To get the most from a retreat, you ideally need to stay a minimum of two nights. Packages (and prices) include all meals, inclusive spa treatments, and exercise classes. Grayshott Spa offers both tailor-made and specific stays and breaks, as well as week-long weight-management breaks."
Will my stay be all hard work?
"We are very aware that people need time to unwind and relax in peace and tranquillity. This is reflected in all our breaks with some "me-time" set aside. This can be spent how you wish – whether that's sitting outside enjoying our beautiful grounds, sleeping, taking a treatment, enjoying a leisurely swim or perhaps a more energetic game of tennis. The choices are endless and up to you!"
How do I know which package is right for me?
"At the time of booking, our trained reservationists will go through what you are trying to establish from your stay at Grayshott Spa. That could be anything from a totally de-stressing or pampering break, or a focussed weight-management, stress-management or health-management break.
Our reservationists will liaise with our spa team and health consultants to ensure that your stay (and treatments) meet your requirements and do not conflict with any existing health problems you may have. Grayshott Spa has a wealth of trained in-house experts including dieticians, nutritionists and fitness trainers. All guests staying a minimum of two nights or more receive a complementary health consultation on arrival."
How long does a health-management break last?
"Grayshott Spa’s current Vital Health Retreat break lasts six nights (seven days) and our other breaks have a minimum two-night stay."
What can I expect from a retreat experience?
"That all depends on what you are looking to get out of your stay. You can certainly expect to be in a place that takes you away from the stresses and strains of modern day life, with delicious and nutritional spa cuisine, exceptional quality treatments and a high level of customer service. A true spa retreat such as Grayshott Spa will have your health and wellbeing as its core focus."
Will there be any support afterwards?
"Yes. Retreats are aimed at making life changes and Grayshott prides itself on supporting you on an on-going basis. We run Refresher Weekends a couple of months after each Vital Health Retreat, so guests can "plug back in", address any concerns or get back on track if they need to. Our in-house experts are always on hand to discuss guest’s concerns after they have gone home."
Can I come to a retreat on my own?
"Most definitely. Grayshott Spa in particular lends itself to solo visitors and we recently won the Good Spa Guide’s "Spa by Yourself" award."
