Kimia

Kimia are a British beauty brand based in Rossendale, Lancashire. Founder Ian Dadash teamed up with Dr Hedva Choval, who had pioneered a unique extraction process to remove plants oils from plants which were previously almost impossible to extract from. Kimia products are created from all-natural ingredients, using the chemistry of nature to address skin cell deterioration.

Kimia is the ancient word for gold, and their super serums based on ancient alchemy promise to give you a precious glow. Fans include Kate Moss and Victoria Beckham, who credits her glossy pout to Kimia's lip serum.

They say: "As founder of Kimia my philosophy is and will always be to develop natural skincare products that can deliver real and sustainable results [...]The team live and breathe my passion and are dedicated to delivering exquisite, all-natural products that truly answer the needs of today’s consumers while avoiding the jargon and complexity found in much of the beauty market.

The results we have witnessed so far have ignited a passion in my team to make Kimia part of everyone’s daily lives, and to do it in a way that celebrates real and natural beauty. We believe in what we do and what Kimia does. No woman, or man, should be without it ."

We say: "All-natural anti-ageing products that feel good and really work!"

Exquisite Rejuvenating Facial System

Kimia Exquisite Rejuvenating Facial System at The Good Spa Guide

Application: The Kimia facial system is comprised of one bottle of "exquisite all-natural face oil" and one spray, the "hydra-activator". The step-by-step instructions were easy to follow. You apply six drops of face oil first, patting it on your skin, and then massage it "upwards and outwards". My dry skin soaked up the oil instantly, so when I tried to massage I found it dragged my skin slightly. You then spray six bursts of the hydra-activator onto your hand, apply that over the oil and then massage again. This is where the magic seems to come in. The combination of the oil and the spray on my skin felt lovely, and massaging was much easier.

What's in it? Calendula, rose, clary sage, marula, rosehip, cranberry, neroli, peppermint, rosemary, lady's mantle, lavender, lemon balm and more!

Effect: My skin was velvety smooth after applying the products. They also made a great base for foundation -- I needed to apply less and it looked very smooth and even. Longer term, I have noticed that the products are firming up the more jowly areas of my skin, and are making it brighter.

The products are quite expensive, but you use measured amounts each day, so there is no waste. It does take more time to apply the various potions, instead of a quick dab of moisturiser. Part of me feels like I should be chanting some kind of magical spell while I am doing it. But that's a price I am willing to pay as my skin looks so much better.

Verdict: For anyone over the age where you need more than just Mother Nature to keep your skin looking good, Kimia products will be a good investment.

Lip Contour Serum

Kimia Lip Contour Serum at The Good Spa Guide

Application: The Kimia lip contour serum comes in a container that matches the facial system, so the range will look smart lined up on your dressing table. The lip salve is rich and creamy and has to be massaged gently into the lips and surrounding area.

What's in it? Sweet almond oil, witch hazel, grape seed, rose, marigold, clary sage, meadowfoam and watermelon!

Effect: My lips have also improved a great deal since using the serum. The corners of my lips had become dry and cracked, but now this area has healed up nicely. Lipstick sits well on my lips with the serum applied, which helps make them look plumper -- important when you reach the age where lips tend to thin.

Verdict: Kimia products feel good on the skin and the results are good, too.

Kimia
Perfection Neck and Décolleté Serum

30ml, RRP £54

Kimia Perfection Neck and Décolleté Serum at The Good Spa Guide

Application: The bottle dispenses, via an hygienic pump mechanism (a must for 100% natural products), a clear, runny oil. The serum was not as well absorbed as I hoped, leaving a definite greasy feel on my newly non-neglected décolleté. If you're more dextrous than I am, it won't drip onto your T-shirt.

What's in it? Grape seed oil, calendula oil, and clary sage oil. A great collection of properties, then, as grape-seed oil has astringent and therefore toning qualities, while calendula and clary sage are soothing.

Effect: As I used the serum, my skin stayed soft and smooth, and I also noticed a lessening of redness. I am not sure I could say my neck reached the dizzy heights of "glowing with youthful exuberance", as the manufacturers promise, but it was soft and shiny. I also enjoyed the light floral fragrance. If you're wary about the price, I can report that a little goes a long way.

Verdict: A top-quality, targeted serum for anti-ageing aid, with definite soothing and soothing results.

Precious Eye Serum

Kimia Precious Eye Serum at The Good Spa Guide

Application: Kimia's packaging looks clean, modern, professional and ageless. The product inside is an oil and not a more typically gel-like serum, and you don't need to apply much. I gently massaged tiny circles from my outer eye inwards, above and below my eye, until the product had penetrated, twice a day.

What's in it? Damask rose, calming calendula, healing evening primrose oil, astringent witch hazel extract and anti-oxidant vitamin E (amongst a few other oils) make up this high-quality serum.

Effect: After a few weeks (and some late nights) this eye serum made some difference to my thin under-eye skin and the fine lines looked diminished. This is at the higher end of the price scale for me, but a drop or two of the effective product will cover the whole eye area, and it lasts a very long time.

Verdict: I would recommend the product to those who are prepared to spend a little time on their beauty regime, and those who have dehydrated skin and fine lines.
