Pinks Boutique
When Luke Sherriff, a human scientist, and Kirstie Allen, a historian, first met at Oxford University, there seemed little to link his interest in the human body with Kirstie's specialist subjects of women and South East Asia. But, it was their shared love of Asia, where they'd both travelled extensively, which truly brought the Pinks Boutique idea to life. By combining their desire for pure organic products with a fascination for beautiful flowers, unique aromas and exotic ingredients of Indonesia, Tibet, Nepal, Thailand and Japan, they were able to create a blend of professional organic spa products called Pinks Boutique.
They say: "At Pinks Boutique we care as much about what at we put on our skin as what at we put in our mouths. The organic cosmetic industry is younger than the organic food industry, but its aim is the same: reducing the amount of chemicals in our bodies."
We say: "These pretty products left our Spies with as many good feelings as there are good ingredients, including happy, nurtured, reassured, and hydrated. We have been won over by Pinks Boutique's aromatic and organic products."

Application: Use in the evening after cleansing and toning, and/or sparingly in the morning. With all those rich flower and plant extracts, you'd expect the serum to glide on quickly and smoothly, which it does, with a dusky, not too floral scent. What's in it? The label announces, all in capital letters: "SUPER-CHARGED ROSEHIP EXTRACT SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN TO REDUCE SIGNS OF AGING AND SUN DAMAGE". More gently, the serum, designed specifically for "dry-mature" skin (that'll be me, then) is made with a remarkable 99.5% Soil Association-certified organic ingredients. Those ingredients, aside from the ROSEHIP EXTRACT, include apricot-kernel, avocado, evening primrose and jojoba oils. Effect: I was worried that so much oil would just sit on my skin, but the product was soon absorbed, leaving my skin feeling noticeably smoother, with a slight sheen. This serum gives you a soothing shield to face the perils of the day. I don't know if I looked dramatically different, but my skin felt deeply nurtured and nourished. Verdict: A softening and soothing organic treat for stressed skin. |

Application: As instructed, I put a spoonful of the salts into a bowl which I'd filled with hot water. I carefully placed my feel into the bowl, feeling the pleasant roughness of the dissolving salts on my feet. What's in it?: Himalayan rock crystal salt, eucalyptus, peppermint, lavender, rose geranium. Effect: The salts felt good and I enjoyed taking five minutes to relax and breathe in the scent, which had by now diffused around the bathroom. When I took my feet out they felt soft and fresh with a faint glisten from the oils. Verdict: A soak that refreshes feet, with an aroma that soothes. |

Application: The facial polish is a pale paste that once applied to the skin, melts into an oil. Massaging it into my face felt more like using an oil-based cleansing melt than a scrub. What's in it?: Shea butter, white tea extract, oatmeal, bamboo extract, mandarin orange and lemongrass oils. Effect: The polish contains no abrasive granules. It tingled very slightly as the gentle exfoliants got to work. After rinsing the polish off, my skin still felt a little oily. As I was off to bed, I just left it as it was, but you'll need to remove the remainder with toner if using it in the morning. My skin definitely looked refreshed and felt soft after use. Verdict: A whole host of organic ingredients, an amazing aroma and a product that is enjoyable to use. I'll be buying this again! |

Application: The smell of lemongrass wafting about my being was really zingy and refreshing in the morning. This scrub is easy to smooth on, and the cane sugar grains melt away to leave the moisturising oils. What's in it?:Cane sugar, shea butter, Himalayan mineral salt, lemongrass and mandarin organic essential oils. Effect: This body scrub left me feeling smooth and hydrated, and my limbs didn't dry out in the day, as they usually do. Hooray -- no need to apply a moisturiser afterwards. Verdict: Uplifting, moisturising, organic, and joyous to use. Big round of applause! |

Application: The balm is quite thick, which I guess just proves its worth. The balm felt very soft and soothing when I put it on, but the product did take a while to soak into my hands. What's in it?: This Indonesian-inspired balm contains shea butter, sweet orange, neroli and vitamin E. Effect: Use as an intensive moisturiser overnight if your absorption patience is limited. Either way, you'll end up with baby-soft and sweet-smelling digits. Which is what you want, after all. Verdict: A nurturing and restorative balm best left to work its magic overnight. |
