Willow Organic
Who and What are Willow Organic?
Willow Organic was created by Sue Stowell, who wanted to produce a range in keeping with nature and based around fragrant fruit and flower oils.
All Willow products use one of four fragrance formulations: Jasmine and Geranium, Rose and Sandalwood, Orange, Lime and Bergamot, and Lime and Lavender. There's also a limited edition, seasonal fragrance of Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh.
Willow Organic products do not contain parabens, or any artificial chemicals or preservatives. They are made with certified organic ingredients, many Soil Association Certified.
They say: "There was a gap in the men's market and in September 2006 Willow Organic for men was launched, a luxurious range of sophisticated and refreshing men's products."
We say: "Willow have created a line of products which are appealing to metrosexual men who care about what they use on their skin. We like the fact that Willow is an ethical, environmentally friendly brand, too."
Willow Organic for Men - What have we tried?
Willow Organic Men's Moisturising Aftershave Balm RRP £19 - 250ml
As shaving is a practice carried out first thing in the morning when I'm barely awake, an after-shave product which is easy to find, grip, and use without engaging one's brain too much is always welcome. The square and sturdy Willow bottle proved a winner on that front, with a pump top that can both take a bleary thump and dispense a perfect amount.

When first applied, the balm gave a refreshingly cold tingle, which died down slowly to a pleasant waking glow. The fragrance was just right, long lasting but not overpowering. It certainly won't invite any comments of the "Have you fallen into a vat of after-shave?" ilk. I must admit I'd never really recognised cedarwood as a fragrance but, combined with citrus, I found them a perfect match. Afterwards my skin felt cool, calm and moisturised.
I noticed that the product lost its scent after about three months, but maybe this is due to the balm being organic.
Verdict: An easy-to-use balm that calms skin and smells good, too.
Black rice soap with spicy cedarwood and orange RRP £7.50 - 120gm

It looked as attractive as it sounds: a grey bar with a very subtle "garagey" smell.
In actual use, however, the soap came into its own. The bar fitted well into my palm, and made a smooth lather without being too oily or slippery. The orange fragrance emerged with the lather. The soap felt so good that it made heavily perfumed and coloured products seem even less attractive. In short, I will happily continue to use this effective soap. I have also discovered an interest in soap ingredients which was previously dormant.
Verdict: A deeply cleansing, manly and natural soap.
