Pevonia Botanica
Who are and what are Pevonia Botanica?
Pevonia Botanica offers a range of spa care products based on marine and botanical ingredients for all sorts of skin types. Pevonia products have organic extracts, aren't tested on animals, and are paraben free. All Pevonia packaging is recyclable and biodegradable, too. But Pevonia don't want you to think that "natural" can't deliver results, as they certainly aim to. So this range could suit you if you want to be green, clean, and beautiful!
They Say: "Pevonia has earned a celebrated reputation as the world's leading face, body and spa care line, available only through highly trained, qualified professionals within our industry. All potential UK Pevonia spas/salons are therefore individually vetted for approval."
We Say: We were intrigued by this spa-only brand. We've only tried a small quantity of the large range of Pevonia products, but we found them gentle yet effective, and good enough for all skin types. The products we tried all had a herbal scent, so have a little sniff at the spa before buying to make sure you like the smell. Overall, a good brand that has its heart in the right place.
Pevonia Botanica products - What have we tried?
Pevonia Ligne Nymphea travel kit RRP £21.95
Sassy Spy:
I tried the Pevonia Ligne Nymphea Travel Kit, which contained three 50-ml bottles of bathing products, and came in a soft white waffle zip-bag. There was a postcard inside, too, with instructions in English, French and Spanish.
Ligne Nymphea Anti-Stress Bath & Shower Gel

I was instantly struck by the herbal smell, the strongest overtones being lavender, a scent known for its soothing, calming properties. There's also chamomile to de-stress and unwind your senses.
The gel foamed up nicely as I slathered it all over my body. This shower gel cleanses gently and smells great. I can't say I felt any less stressed, but then again I'm not a very stressed person! I found the most stressful thing was when the gel ran low, and I had to try every which way to get the last of the product out of the bottle!
Verdict: If you like the smell of lavender you'll love this gentle shower gel.
Ligne Nymphea Silky Skin Body Scrub

The directions advise applying this scrub to dry skin using wet hands or a wet body brush. This managed to fox me a little - do I wash with the shower gel, dry off, then use the exfoliator, wash off, then dry again? Or do I apply the scrub with wet hands outside of my shower cubicle and then get in? Realising that I was thinking far too much about a cleansing process, I just got on with it.
The container easily dispenses a quite runny white liquid with a little squeeze. The smell is faint, slightly soapy, but clean smelling. The scrub glided onto my (wet) skin easily, and its tiny irregular shaped jojoba granules felt like they were doing what they were meant to be doing. The scrub also contains rose essential oil, chamomile and soapwort to aid the process.
I used the scrub particularly on my elbows, knees and legs (my driest areas) and, over time, my skin felt softer and smoother. I wouldn't proclaim it was miraculous but I would be happy to continue using it.
Verdict: Whichever way you decide to use it, you get soft silky skin!
Ligne Nymphea Preserving Body Moisturiser

This moisturiser smells quite traditional and reminded me of an older person's fragrance, such as lily of the valley or honeysuckle.
The moisturiser is a cool white lotion that smoothed easily over my body -- a little goes a long way. Containing vitamin E, vitamin B, rose essential oil, orris extract and alphahydroxy acids, there was no greasy residue whatsoever. I was really pleased that my legs felt silky soft and well hydrated all day.
The bottle itself is quite tough -- there's only a little give when attempting to squeeze out the product, so be prepared to give it a good shake.
Verdict: A long-lasting moisturiser, but check you like the scent.
Overall verdict: A handy travel kit containing herbal smelling products in quirky packaging, that work nicely.
Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser 150ml, RRP £19.75

Sensitive Spy:
I'm always a little wary of exfoliants, as my very sensitive skin doesn't always appreciate products, even if a product states "gentle" on the packaging. The instructions tell you to use this cleanser morning and evening -- how will my skin cope with that much exfoliation?!
I loved the fresh herbal fragrance, which was light enough not to tickle my nose. The creamy mixture has tiny flecks of natural jojoba granules to eliminate those dead skin cells. I started off using the cleanser every other day, then I increased to every morning for a short while. My skin was not irritated by the product, although I felt happiest using it every other day, and my skin also did not redden from abrasion. The blackheads around my nose area were reduced in appearance, though! I shall be using this again.
Verdict: A light exfoliant that is effective and gentle for even very sensitive skin.
Ligne Power Repair Age defying marine collagen cream 50ml, RRP £41.75
Single Spy:

I am always keen -- at my age -- on lotions that promise to defy age, and to repair my power lines while about it. Pevonia's soft white cream is silky to the touch, slightly herbal in scent, but very sweet-smelling, and felt very rich against my skin. You only need a small amount as it is easily absorbed. My skin seemed to drink it in. If you apply too much, the cream will rub off, so use sparingly. Also, avoid your eye area as the cream can be slightly stinging if your clumsy fingers try to apply it direct to your retina.
The collagen and hyaluronic acid certainly seemed to soften the fine lines under my eyes, and I liked the way my skin felt extremely smooth after each application, too. With UV filters, this age-defying marine collagen cream is a good choice to apply in the morning before exposure to the daily sun, and will keep your skin supple during a busy day.
Verdict: Use a tiny amount every day and you will quite possibly become age defying!
