Sundari

SUNDÃRI means "beautiful woman" in Sanskrit. The brand was founded by three women, Ayla Hussain, Cavan Mahony and supermodel Christy Turlington, who turned their passion for holistic skin care into a collection of Ayurveda-inspired products and spa treatments. Each product in the range is formulated to a specific Ayurvedic skin type. SUNDÃRI products and treatments were founded on the theory that your skin is a direct reflection of your inner state of being.

They say: "SUNDÃRI blends modern science for immediate results with botanicals known through ancient wisdom, and its users consistently experience noticeable and defining results - achieving beauty through balance, staying younger looking and preventing the effects of premature aging."

We say: "We found these luxury products to be effective, and we absolutely loved the pretty, vibrant packaging. You can match your skin type to one of the three doshas on certain Sundari facial products: Vata is for dry skin, Kapha for oily skin, and Pitta for normal/combination."

Sundari Comfrey Cleanser for Vata skin at The Good Spa Guide

Application: Massage the chamomile and comfrey cleanser "into damp face" avoiding the eye area, then rinse.

What's in it? Comfrey, jojoba, chamomile, geranium, petitgrain.

Effect: I rinsed the cleanser off with lukewarm water, revealing softer clean-feeling skin. Everything about this product appealed to me from its scent, to its scrub-like texture (it is more of an exfoliator than a cleanser).

Verdict: A cleanser that lightly exfoliates; as a weekly facial brightener, it's great.

Sundari
Neem Night Cream

50ml, RRP £37.04

Reviewed by: Sassy Spy

Age: 30s

Skin type: Combination/dry

Sundari Neem Night Cream at The Good Spa Guide

Application: I used this product every night after cleansing my skin. I found it to be quite rich, so I didn't have to use the recommended facial oil with it.

What's in it? Neem, hyaluronic acid, geranium, grapefruit, orange and rosemary oils ... and a few parabens.

Effect: My skin can get quite dry in areas, and the cream seemed to rehydrate my skin very well, especially on my neck. A little goes a long way, so your Sundari Neem Night Cream should last a reasonable amount of time.

Verdict: An effective, long-lasting emollient for dry skin.

Sundari
Healing Neem and Tamanu Corrective Moisturiser for Dry Skin / Vata Skin

50ml, RRP £33.33

Sundari Heeling Neem and Tamanu Corrective Moisturiser for Dry Skin/Vata Skin at The Good Spa Guide

Application: The sweet-smelling lotion is quite light, and was quickly absorbed by my skin to leave my face feeling soft, but not greasy.

What's in it? Neem, tamanu oil, hyaluronic acid.

Effect: I love the pleasant, fresh scent and light texture, and the practical pump dispenser to avoid having to faff around with lids etc. After several days of use, my skin actually looked better, too, with no dry areas or break-outs.

Verdict: A softening moisturiser that works well.

Sundari
T-Zone Oil Control Treatment

50ml, RRP £28.40

Sundari T-Zone Oil Control Treatment at The Good Spa Guide

Application: This clear, sticky gel has a strong medicinal smell of camphor that fades fast. The gel smoothes on easily with a pleasant cooling sensation, followed by a slight tightening of the skin.

What's in it? Burdock root, witch hazel, salicylic acid.

Effect: This treatment aims to "reduce inflammation and blemishes, expel toxins and bring sebum levels under control." I found that it did reduce the oil bumps I suffer from, particularly on my forehead. My skin was smoother, but it didn't seem to have much effect on my blemishes. I would not recommend this for dry skin as it is quite drying.

Verdict: A smoothing, soothing oil-control treatment that's best suited to combination and oily skin types.

Sundari
Essential Oil for Pitta Skin

15ml, RRP £39.51

Reviewed by: Shy Spy

Age: 30s

Skin type: Normal/combination

Sundari Essential Oil for Pitta Skin at The Good Spa Guide

Application: This oil absorbed easily into my skin, leaving it moisturised, but not greasy.

What's in it? Jasmine and ylang ylang essential oils, with an almond and sunflower oil base. This is a simple blend of oils and a little added Vitamin A and E - nothing else.

Effect: I used this oil at night, and woke in the morning to find smooth, soft skin. I found that this oil was much better at balancing my skin than a night cream, and it didn't clog my pores.

Verdict: Simple, moisturising face oil for fans of natural products who don't need to watch the pennies.

Sundari
Omega 3 and Mandarin Lip Treatment

12g, RRP £9.26

Skin type: Combination

Sundari Omega 3 and Mandarin Lip Treatment at The Good Spa Guide

Application: This "supplifying" lip treatment comes in a small clear tube (think Lancôme Juicy Tubes). It is a thick oily cream with tiny exfoliating grains. Smooth it on as you would a lip gloss.

What's in it? Avocado, soybean, sweet almond, linseed, orange, lemon and mandarin oils.

Effect: The light, fruity scent was pleasant. The cream was immediately softening and felt like its grains were doing a good job of exfoliating, but the formulation is quite oily. I found that the formula separates after a while, so I had to decant a squirt of oil before use.

Verdict: A fruity fresh exfoliating lip gloss!

Sundari
Neem Eye Cream

15ml, RRP £30.25

Reviewed by: Sedate Spy

Age: 40s

Skin type: Dry

Sundari Neem Eye Cream at The Good Spa Guide

Application: This cream is rich to the touch, and you only need to apply a tiny amount because the cream spreads so easily. I felt a definite tingling for a few minutes after application. The cream absorbed almost instantly and left the skin around my eyes feeling soft and hydrated.

What's in it? Neem, sesame, triphala, sandalwood, rose.

Effect: I can’t actually say that I noticed any reduction of fine lines or wrinkles, but the cream did reduce puffiness, especially when used in the morning. Overall, I liked this cream and can say that it left the skin around my eyes looking healthier.

Verdict: This little pot of cream proves good things do come in small sizes: dehydrated and puffy eyes no more!
