Good Spa Guide Favourites - products

The Spa Spies are always hard at work testing the latest spa lotions and potions. We've been lost in a flurry of scrubbing, toning, and exfoliating to find our current favourites for faces. This is a list of our own personal must-haves: the products that smell great and do what they say they do.

Elemis Papaya Enzyme Peel 50ml, RRP £26.00

What is it?

A gentle, fruity peel that smoothes on easily, and doesn't solidify, so you can still move your face while it's on. You might recognise this peel from an Elemis spa facial.

Why do we love it?

The fruity scents of pineapple and papaya make this peel smell good enough to eat, and as the active ingredients are the fruit acids, it isn't full of too many unnatural ingredients either. It leaves your skin very smooth, with no dryness whatsoever.

Eve Lom Cleanser 100ml, RRP £48.00

What is it?

A tactile mix of soothing oils and exfoliants, which comes with a fairly elegant white muslin cloth, positively prescriptive instructions, and a cult following.

Why do we love it?

We love the ritual of applying the green cleanser, massaging forehead, eyes, upper lip, cheeks and chin, then soaking the muslin cloth in hot water and holding it over the face. We also love the results. Our Single Spy doesn't think she can ever go back to cleaning her face with anything else.

ila Face Oil for glowing skin 30ml, RRP £55.00

What is it?

A blend of organic argan and rosehip oil, scented with an exquisite blend of sandalwood and rose otto oils. There's a dab of Vitamin E, and that's it.

Why do we love it?

Sensitive Spy says that it's the best face oil on the planet. Hands down, no contest. It's more expensive than unicorn tears but worth every precious penny. Ila Face Oil is beautifully presented in a heavy white bottle with a brilliant dropper dispenser. Push the top of the lid and a few drops of oil are sucked into a large glass dropper. Easy to apply and you don't lose a single drop.

Germaine de Cappucini Pearl Sensation Exceptional Multi-Perfection mask RRP £85.45

What is it?

A smart silver box containing six smartly-wrapped moisturised tissue masks, complete with eye, nose and mouth holes. The masks are impregnated with "an ultra-concentrated serum".

Why do we love it?

It's a gorgeously hydrating product: the mask left Single Spy's skin looking healthy and bright immediately after use, and for the rest of the day. It made a particular difference to the skin under her eyes, which looked much brighter than usual. Its effects are cumulative -- the more you use it, the better your skin will look.

SenSpa Organic Therapy Refreshing Face Mist 100ml, RRP £15.95

What is it?

A cooling, soothing, 100% organic blend of astringent witch hazel, balancing calendula and a zesty, complex blend of essential oils including mandarin, bergamot, lime and basil.

Why do we love it?

It's perfect as a face mist and a toner for combination skin, balancing that oily t-zone without stripping it of moisture.
