Ragdale Hall's Thermal Spa

A multi-million pound, state-of-the-art Thermal Spa is now open at top, award-winning health hydro, Ragdale Hall. Free-of-charge to all residential and day guests, the Thermal Spa draws on inspiration from the greatest spas around the world and features Scandinavian, European, Greek and Japanese influences.
Ragdale Hall's Thermal Spa has been likened to an indoor playground for adults - the aim is to relax, have fun and end your visit with a feeling of positive well-being.
The overall design is based on a cross-section of a giant Nautilus shell. Guests are cocooned within a sanctuary of warm, calm and nurturing energies featuring 12 luxurious and unique heat and water experiences:
Wishing Stream: Caress an age-old pebble before throwing it into the stream to rid yourself of negative energy before starting your journey.
The Bubbling Footbaths: Begin at the footbath at the entrance of the Waterfall Pool. Place your feet into the bubbling water - a footbath is an exquisitely relaxing prelude to any heat treatment. They're a delicious way to pamper those hard-working and often-neglected parts of our bodies!
Waterfall Pool: Come rain or shine, you can bathe outside in waters kept at a constant 34°c. Built within Zen-like gardens, the numerous bays and inlets carved into the pool's structure allow for privacy and contemplation with the added bonus of massage jets at every turn. Even in mid-winter, steam and mist rise from the pool to create a sense of bathing in a hidden lagoon.
Candle Pool: An entrancing, mosaic cavern with lapping water lit by the flicker of candles and a star-lit ceiling. This magical haven is further enhanced by mood lighting and gentle music. Starlight in the cave-like roof creates the perfect finishing touch allowing you to float away and relax in quiet contemplation. Choose a small pod for some time alone or a larger one if you're with a group of friends.
Thought Zone: This is the place for inspirational thoughts. A dry heat of 60°c coupled with heated, ergonomic, mosaic seating set the scene. Rest your feet on the central bench and watch ever-changing imagery and colours projected onto the ceiling and bounced off walls reminiscent of a Moorish-inspired riad. Svarowski Crystals inlaid into the walls add shimmers of light around the room. A place to relax and rest in between the other heat rooms.
Colour-flow Cave: Filled with a humid and heady mix of jasmine and camomile, a river of colour flows to a central crystal mountain to provide a hedonistic detox. You'll feel you are in a tropical hideaway.
Experience Showers: Bathe in a warm tropical rain shower as passionflower scent is released into the water. Or choose a cool mist - mint is mixed with the water to improve respiration, so enhancing the benefits of the heat rooms.
Volcanic Salt Bath An intense and 100% humid experience. Black granite walls and benches have glinting mineral traces embedded within the rock whilst the floor is carved from hewn black slate. This dramatic space is dominated by a central water feature comprising a bed of giant mamor stones and modern basalt monoliths hand-carved in Iceland.
The main light soft source is a blue hue. Euca-menthol is spritzed into the air together with a salt infusion to aid deeper breathing. A Kneipp hose can be used if you get too hot or to cool down prior to leaving the bath and to help remove the salt.
Cave Shower: A natural cave-like room offers a star-lit ceiling that changes with the mood and ambience of the shower/water experience. The Cave Shower recreates the sensation of being caught in a thunder storm in paradise.
Ice Fountain: A tubular steel sculpture creates ice flakes that are delivered into a frosted glass bowl. Perfect for use post sauna or following time in the volcanic salt bath, colour flow cave or scented room.
Scented Room: Natural materials, fresh aromatic herbs and a gentle hue of colours help to invigorate senses. As the colours alter, water is doused onto fresh aromatic herbs above the stove, filling the air with gentle scents. Soft music also filters through the room creating a spring-like atmosphere that imbues you with a sense of well-being.
Rose Sauna: Built from Nordic pine with Baked Abachi and Rose Marble floor tiles, the sauna is drenched in natural light thanks to a feature window which over looks the outside pool and garden area.
Images of blush-coloured English roses line the wooden panels. The natural light means the room reflects the changing seasons and time of day whilst additional lighting, filtered through hand-blown glass, adds shades of red, rose, lavender and peach.
Traditional sauna coals provide both the heat and humidity with essence of rose spritzed through the warmth.
